it was 2.30 am in the night when the servant woke me up in the emrgency department. there was an emergency, a lady in her mid thirties was brought unconscious . her pulse was feeble , blood pressure barely measurable and the body swollen. she was started medical treatment immediately by our team of doctors and blood samples taken . she was in a state of anaphylactic shock at the time of presentation. strangely , her body had marks of chronic ulcers which are pathognomonic of an immunodeficient condition like tuberculosis or H.I.V......the reports came and she was h.i.v positive . we called her husband who was anxiously waiting outside the emergency ward. he was an handsome guy , probably in his early thirties.....though a bit odd about the reverse age difference , we did not bother much to ask him about that. ........to be ctn
P.S-BATTERY GONE.me on highway in a torrential rain and traffic jam for miles and miles ahead. wow..
ctn...however when ever a case of hiv is detected it is of utmost important for the doctors to counsel the close relative besides the patient ...patient in this case was critical and unconscious. we asked him whether he had any idea that his wife had hiv...he surprised us by saying that though he had written and signed in the consent form as patient's husband , in reality he was nobody to her . frustrated with his degrees, life and the failures , he had ran away from the city some years back to bombay where he came in contact with this female ,who worked as a sex worker . she supported him when he had nothing to eat and no place for shelter . she took care of him so well that not only he survived the initial scare of survival but became a successful buisnessman also . he returned to the city . some time later he got the news of the illness of the female . he called her to his place despite all the oppositions of the friends ,family and society.but since two days her condition had deterriorated very fast , he tried getting her admitted to three hospitals since evening but somehow was refused on some pretext till he came to this hospital........he thanked us but we were worried ...for him. we got his blood tested . he was H.I.V positive too.
p.s --this true incidence was narrated byone of my doctor friend and i have posted on her behalf. And the man contracted H.I.V because of his physical(sexual) relation with the female, a sexual worker.
